No. Not a car.

It seems Craftsman had the first hybrid.

Hybrid ratchet that is.

:)

When production shifted on long-lever Craftsman ratchets WITH oil-holes in their heads to new model number ratchets WITHOUT oil-holes, some of the already drilled head blanks were "plugged" with solid steel plugs.

Thus, a hybrid ratchet.

Sometimes you can spot the little tell tale chromed circle, where the oil-hole would have been.

But, you can ALWAYS tell from taking a peek inside the drive gear compartment. Yup! This here one's gotta plug.

While the old ratchets used a long, relatively coarse spring, driving the ball-bearing againt the ratchet's pawl, many of the hybrids switched over (if holes weren't already drilled) to the newer, shorter, finer motion spring, we're probably all more familiar with.

That same spring is driving today's Craftsman teardrop ratchets, with an improved pawl cam design.

If you want to watch a fascinating movie/documentary, rent "Who Killed the Electric Car?"

It's about the GM EV1. A really great documentary. Very interesting.
