| Adam | July 13th, 2008 02:19 AM I got my first OBD2 INNOVA Car reader, over to the Sears store the other day. Like most computer sales, it took me a while to read through the offerings. FIVE of um! They were all nicely locked to their hooks, so that stuff on the back of the packages was a bit "problematical" to read. Now, as you've read in another post, I'm merrily trying to figurcate what to DO about the emergency light codes. From what I gather, I gotta check an awful lot of plastic and rubber hoses. Sears carries a vacuum tester for at least one of the solenoid valves. But, if I can't find anything obvious, the car will have to go to a test and diagnostic facility with a "smoke machine". Atleast I can "talk code" semi-intelligently with the mechanics. Hey... I got a P0442 minor and a P0455 major leak detected in my ECMT (made it up - Evaporative Control Monitoring Tubing). Can you help me? Where do I look up the engine on/ running car cycles necessary for the reader to report on the overall car (Dodge Caravan and Toyota Camry) condition? |
| gasman | July 15th, 2008 03:16 PM Adam, I recently bought this code reader, and have found that it is pretty much useless unless you know someone in the auto repair business that can look up and can tell you what the codes actually mean. the codes in the manual are pretty much useless. As for a case, I just bought the small plastic case that I got at sears. I think they called it a pickup truck under seat box. Bill |
| Joe | July 18th, 2008 06:13 PM Bill: That person would be me, although I'm not in the automotive parts business anymore (since 2005), but I still have my contacts and sources, and information. So, you could ask me what code you have and the year, make, model, etc and I'll put something together you could use. Just ask me...anytime. Least I could do after you square rooted the oven issue for me. |
| gasman | July 19th, 2008 09:16 AM Thanks, Joe. I'll keep that in mind. Bill |
| Joe | July 19th, 2008 02:03 PM I get access to stuff most times that's a few years old, but I still get it :). So, I could probably help out with a code issue that you find on your code reader. My cars are all OBDI for now and I have a scanner (not code reader) that works with all of them. It's an invaluable tool! |
