| Adam | February 5th, 2008 12:26 PM A Timber Frame construction company, back East in Cambridge, has a brand new 4 axis Thickness Planer. To get the authentic hand tool marking back on to the computer-controllified milled work pieces hand tools like adzes and axes are used to "ding-up" the otherwise perfect wooden beams. You can still get single-beveled Broad hatchets, through Vaughn at better equipped hardware stores - like OSH. Sears used to carry a Craftsman model for Carpenters doing "roughing" work. Heavy sigh... It's gone. But, I got mine a decade or so back. I'd better keep it sharp and in good condition, there ain't noth'n to swap out for it at the stores - no more. It even has some of the Craftsman emerald green paint still stuck to parts of it. There still is a nice Craftsman Carpenter's hatchet, with a nail driving octagonal pole on one end for sale, new, in the stores. If I spend 50 dollars our more this month (at one time) on tools, I get 10 dollars off on my purchase. Doing the math: That's a TWENTY percent discount on $50.00 of tools and a ten percent savings on $100 dollars worth of tools. So, depending on my expenditures, I can get between 20 to 10 percent discount on a medium sized purchase. Craftsman Hatchet is around $24.99. Bent handle Craftsman ratchet is $31.99. |
