| Adam | March 19th, 2007 01:27 AM March 18, 2007 Workbench time Those two 8 foot long, Maple topped, Gladiator workbenches are not selling. Management may tell me to "get rid" of them. And, we all know what that means. Paintâm BLUE and useâm! Canât go wrong for me. Either a couple of Customers can be delighted with their new workbenches or I can use them. Either way, we wonât be jamming the compactor with 8 foot long pieces of solid Maple. Iâve never rebuilt a ratchet on a solid Maple workbench top. |
| Randal | March 19th, 2007 10:30 AM Maybe you can't buy them, but have your spouse come in looking for a present, and pick one up! (IE, that is if she wouldn't kill you first);) |

| Joe | March 19th, 2007 12:06 PM They are way too expensive compared to a Craftsman or other brand of the same basic size. That's why they are still there :) |
| Adam | March 19th, 2007 05:38 PM March 19, 2007 Not many Not many people really "need" a solid Maple workbench top. I'm still doing very nicely with Masonite. However, a laminated Maple workbench top, at 150 dollar discount, is a very special surface to have. The biggest drawback is overcoming the "pretty-factor" and actually doing work on it. If the workbenches don't come with instructions on how to build bench hooks, they should. |
| Adam | April 19th, 2007 10:54 AM January 19, 2007 I've got it The perfect use for an eight-foot long "pretty" Maple topped bench. A sharpening bench! The bench is long enough to accommodate an eight foot long saw blade vise (homemade). I could joint, set and sharpen any of my logging saws. I'd need a cabinet of drawers below to hold the stones, glass plates and lapping tools. This could work! There's still that couch thing, though. I can't crush the Maple tops. They'd jam the compactor! Has someone else tagged one of the benches yet (not greedy or rich)? |
| Joe | April 19th, 2007 01:12 PM I have an old Sears workbench that I got from my grandfather's neighbor. It has to be over 40 years old. SOLID old piece. |
