I have a lot of different company‛s catalogs. Not a lot of purchasing power. But, a lot of catalogs.

Although Sears has some woodworking tools, I think most posters would agree Craftsman hand tools lean toward "wrench turning" tasks.

So...

I offer Lee Valley & Veritas for your consideration.

Lee Valley is based and has most of its manufacturing in our neighbor to the North, Canada.

It not only carries the normal woodworking tools, like planes, chisels and cabinet scrapers, but specialty tools, many of the company‛s own design.

How about a scaled-down logging "pickaroon" for moving logs, timber, heck - firewood around?

There is a very large selection of measurement tools, including fractional, stainless steel dial calipers.

They have a wide range of axes.

Wood planes are necessary, of course. However, there is a considerable number of Veritas customer designed and built planes.

Do you like sharpening tools? Of course you do.

While having a quality edged tool is a prerequisite of success, it is in the geometry and execution of honing technique that really determines the individual cutting characteristics of YOUR tool.

People have different preferences. So, in the catalog you‛ll find oil stones, water stones, ceramic stones, diamond "stones", guides, 0.50 micron honing compound, strops, grinding wheels, felt wheels and power sharpening machines.

Veritas has a very popular honing guide, that is easy to set the honing angle, in concert with an angle setting gage. And, at a twist of a knob, a micro-bevel is applied to the tools basic cutting angle.

Clearly this post is starting to get long. So, I‛ll post additional Lee Valley subjects in the future.

Try going to www.leevalleytools.com.

Gardening tools and hardware is sold through two additional catalogs.

You can order your free catalog(s) through the website.
