| Joe | February 2nd, 2005 09:58 AM I have recently purchased the Crafstman 15' Lathe and have several questions. Let me first say that I have only been turning a few months. As yet, I have not turned the lathe on. Below are the questions and concerns that I have. 1) Most lathes that I have used the tool rest moves both parallel and perpendicular to to the bed. On the Sears lathe it only moves along the bed. When I measure the distance from the spindle to the tool rest it is about 5", which means the largest piece that can be turned is 10", not 15". I am missing something in my tinking? 2) On the message board I see several cases where the motor has burned after a few uses. Is that characteristic of the lathe? I am wondering if I should return it for a refund or not? |
| Joe | February 2nd, 2005 12:27 PM These are all lower end imports now :(. Gone are the days when you would get a quality Emerson made (or other OEM) USA made lathe. That would be where I would look if I wanted a Sears Craftsman unit. |
