Dave Building a unique railing

I'm going to be building a railing to go around a stairwell in a new pool/family room. We came up with a great idea, we think, to use pool sticks for the balusters. We already got a bunch of pool sticks donated by the local pool league we belong to. I am planning on cutting the sticks down to the right size as to end up with a 3" railing including the hand rail. The sticks will be reversed every other one to keep the spacing even at 4" or so since they are tapered.

I would appreciate any and all ideas to make this as unique as possible, especially for the hand rail and base.

Thanks,
Dave

Use the table felt as a runner and use the balls to form a design at the top of each stick in the rung :).

Thanks for the idea. I think I might use the felt on the bottom since the sticks vary slightly in diameter. The felt could be cut by hand to fit perfectly to hide any gap that may be visible on the slightly smaller sticks.

I'll have to see if I can find some balls to use as well. I would need about 35 of them.

Thanks again,
Dave

Thanks.

If you cann't find 35 pool balls or wood like to inject variety to the poles, you might consider using square blocks of wood the same size a cue stick chalk. Their color would be flat light blue of course.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been getting a lot of good ideas from different forums. I plan on posting some pics when it's done. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. I am almost ready to get started on it. It should be another week or two before I begin.

Thanks again.
