I have been looking for a throat plate for my craftsman benchtop tablesaw. Its an older cast iron model (113.27521)and the thoat plate is about 1/16" thick and much larger than the new crafstman models. The reason for replacement is to accommodate a dado set. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement? Or what the best way is to fabricate a throat plate? Unfortunately Sears no longer carries these parts in their service dept. Thanks

There is an easy way to make a zero clearance throat plate for any blade. Start with wood the same thickness as the depth of your plate opening. Slightly thinner is OK and you can use tape to shim it up to correct thickness. Use double-faced tape to stick your old plate to your material. Rough cut it to size with a bandsaw and then use a flush trim bit in your router table to trim it to exact size. Make sure that only the bearing of the router bit touches the metal plate. When it's cut to size, put your new plate in with the blade all the way down. Use something heavy (NOT your hands!)to hold down the plate but out of the way of the blade. Start the saw and raise the blade slowly to desired height. Tada! You have a zero clearance throat plate.
