| Rocky Mtn. Ron | October 18th, 2004 01:21 AM I have used both the single speed Delta and Craftsman, 12-1/2" planers. My personal preference is the DeWalt unit. The infeed and outfeed tables on the Dewalt unit are heavier and can be leveled. The DeWalt also features a 4-post lock on the height adjustment. It also has self-storing blade changing wrench and blade height adjusting tools. Do these features reduce "scarfing"? Not exactly! The best solution for longer stock is to use roller supports. You may still experience scarfing on the leading 4" of almost any type of stock. Surface finish smoothness is highly dependant on the orientation of the wood grain, as it is fed into the planer. Price wise, I always try to buy a factory reconditioned unit, rather than a new one. Suggest you check prices on reconditioned units at and . |
