A cabinet scraper will give you the best finish, even better than sanding, but can also be time consuming and difficult to master. I have a couple of questions about your sanding. Is your sander an orbital or random orbit sander? There is a difference and a random orbit is better. Are you starting with a course grit (80-100) and moving progressively through the grits to end with 220? When using a RO sander, you should start it with the sander on the surface and continue to move it until you turn it off and it stops moving. When using an orbital sander you should start it off the surface and keep it moving then take it off the surface prior to turning it off. Hope this helps.
