I seem to remember various garden and farmer brochures and how-to books showing ideas.

This is sort of like plans for a Shaving Horse used in combination with a draw knife.

Many people have seen a drawknife (or illustration). But, the actual construction of the specialized workbench is allusive.

From my remembrances, the press is somewhat like a straight sided barrel with gaps between the "staves". A top cover with a large screw (wooden or metal) is somehow attached (hooks). And, a cheese cloth like bag of apples are inside and squeezed...

At the bottom there is a second platform that forms a trough with a spout for directing your juice into a waiting container.

[My Spelling Dictionary has the word TROUGH in it. Amazing.]

The large screw (with place for a long wooden handle) is available at either Garrette Wade or Woodcraft Supply (normally its used part of a workbench vise).

The wooden staves and trough should be of some wood that does not readily soak up the apple juice.

Mould is so unappealing to look at or taste in your squeezings.

You can either use a natural moisture resistant wood like White Oak (used in wet coopering work) or apply a food safe finish to protect the wood (Salad Bowl finish from Woodcraft Supply).

I hope this has helped. I really had to stretch my memory on this one.
