| Andrew Matava | April 1st, 2002 02:16 PM Does anyone have any plans or tips about making hardwood covers for radiator in a old house? |
| Adam | April 19th, 2005 04:13 AM Oh, is that going to be a challenge. The cover itself is basically going to be an open backed box. Because of the high temperatures (and wood's combustibility) you're going to need a righteous air space between your radiator and the box. Stainable hardwood plywood is going to be a must. Any solid wood board material is going to really change dimensions drastically with the heating and cooling cycles. Lots of vent area is a must for air circulation (efficient operation). Finally, get your homeowner's insurance carriers advice on this project. This is the kind of thing they love to duck coverage on. Even if the wood covers have nothing to do with THE fire. At a minimum pictorially document the box and its installation. |
