| Adam | March 7th, 2007 10:18 PM March 7, 2007 Cold Blueing Solution I'm thinking of doing some restoration work on some old tools that will probably need rust and any built up patina removed, in order to keep the tool from getting any deeper rust pitting. Has anyone seen a source of steel Cold Blueing solution. It creates a chemical blue-black finish, without the need for heat and oil. |
| Admin | March 8th, 2007 05:13 AM You'd get it at a decent sporting goods store, but there are no Cabela's, Dick's, or Sportsman's Warehouses there. REI and Big5 only consider eg rock climbing and skiing to be "sporting." Rural Walmarts even carry it but probably not there in SoCal. Try a good gun shop. |
| Joe | March 8th, 2007 09:12 AM They are made to be used, that's what I buy 'em for :). |
| Dex | March 8th, 2007 06:00 PM If you don't mind mail order; http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/catsearch.aspx?k=cold+blue&ps=10&si=True or http://www.midwayusa.com/esearch.exe/search?TabID=0&category_selector=all_products&search_keywords=cold+blue may have what you're looking for, though S&H may cost more than the chemical. When I need it, usually for my BP guns, I go to local sporting goods store. Normally find it in the firearm cleaning supplies area. |
| Adam | March 10th, 2007 12:07 PM March 10, 2007 Gun Shop Thank you for the leads. I'll go to my local gun shop. I'm sure they'll have it there, along with the night-vision, tracer rounded, armor-piercing.... for rodent hunting... full auto. |
| Mike | April 26th, 2007 12:25 PM Obviously Adam is one of those people who believe everything that the news media wants him to! |
| Joe | April 26th, 2007 05:07 PM Mike: What do you mean by that statement? |
| Adam | April 26th, 2007 09:49 PM April 26, 2007 News Media What does the news media want me to believe? Tools are good? Craftsman tools are better? Non-rusty tools are best (blueing solution)? I kinda came up with the above on my own. |
