May 29, 2006 ARCADE

I have an old scratch awl, with a solid steel handle, bearing a very stylishly lettered ARCADE name on the large flat section of the handle, that was carved out asymmetrically from the rest of the multi-faceted, with domed head handle (a master piece of sentence construction, with no "run-ons").

Has anyone heard of this Manufacturer/ brand name?

How about:
Founded in 1885, Arcade Manufacturing Co. made small cast iron machinery for home use, especially coffee grinders. They made coffee grinders from their inception until the 1930s. Edgar and Charles Morgan invented new grinders for Arcade in their early years.
By 1935 Arcade had a line of inexpensive home-shop machines that used the "Arcade", "Arcade Craft Tools", and "Craftmaster" names. In 1941 Arcade introduced the Homecraft line of woodworking machinery. The line was purchased by Rockwell Manufacturing Co. in 1946. In 1952 Rockwell moved the manufacturing from Freeport, IL to Tupelo, MS. Rockwell's woodworking machinery line now belongs to Delta Manufacturing Co.

Outstanding post!

I guess I have a little bit of a collectible.

And, a darned fine tool by itself (a steel knob, with a non-rolling flat feature and faceted surface, fastened to a stout steel, tapered shaft).

And, unfortunately, Delta has moved many of their fine US production machines to "over there".

Shame on you Delta....(part of the PentAir Group I believe).

I have one of your 1963 US made bench grinders, and man, this thing is a real workhorse!
