Late 60's, early 70's vintage saw. I picked up one at a garage sale for $75. Needed a new table and switch. Has given good service. I think you can turn it in for Emerson's $100 bounty if you don't want to use it.

What the heck is a Emerson Bounty ?
I have a Craftsman (Mod # 113.197602) with a bad motor....

Adam Emerson Law Suite

There was a huge law suite against the Emerson Company for building a Radial Arm Saw without state of the art blade protection.

See the blade guards on the Craftsman Professional Radial Arm Saw in the stores, if you want to see cumbersome safety at its best.

I own one of the old units without the blade guard system and have been very pleased with its performance and can still count all ten fingers.

As part of the law suite, Emerson will either try to send you a retrofit package for your old Radial Arm Saw, or if, like my saw, there is no retrofit available, they'll give you a hundred bucks for the old head.

Since my Radial Arm Saw would be quite useless without its head, and a new RAS costs way... more than 100 bucks, Thanks, but no thanks.

I'll have to continue wearing my eye protection and using all manner of push sticks with the unit.

Adam,

Any idea how to find about the replacement policy?

Hookerbob-
The bounty is not a replacement. You send the motor/head assembly to Emerson and they send you a check for $100. You are left to dispose of the rest of the saw.

The program gets those mean, nasty and dangerous saws away from the public. Nanny state run amok.

The original DeWalt company made one power tool- radial arm saws. Black and Decker bought the company and then got creamed by the lawsuits. Scared 'em so bad that they got rid of the factory. They are now marketed as The Original Saw Co. Great quality units. B&D then packaged B&D Industrial tool lineup in yellow plastic and called them.... That's right DeWalt. New! Improved! Yada, yada, yada...

December 27, 2005 Replacement Heads

If memory serves, owners of certain models of RASs simply got the new guard system.

I had the luck of not being "in the club".

So, the 100 hundred dollar trade-in was offered, to cover the legal bases.

A brand new Craftsman Professional RAS costs $599.99.

Thanks. But, no thanks.

Check the site, previously listed, to see if your model number saw is eligible for a retrofit guard system.

If it is, you may have some luck with talking to Emerson about a replacement head.

A local motor rebuilding shop may be a much better route.
