October 19th, 2005 11:32 AM
I'm looking for a blower deflector kit for my craftsman chipper / vac / blower. Model number: 987.799601. I would greatly appriceate any assistance in helping me find this part.
Thank You

Great news!

I did a little digging in Parts Direct and found out why the whole kit "is not available".

Of the four individual line items listed, one line item is missing. The Danger Decal.

Can you live without the Danger sticker?

The remaining items are all available.

However, only the item 35, Switch tab, part number 1764197 (for 3.06) looks possibly non-hardware store purchaseable.

The other two items a flat washer and a pop rivet seem a little pricy at over $2 each.

A hardware store should very easily be able to supply a 9/64 x 5/16 flat washer and a 1/8 x 3/8 aluminum pop rivet.

I hope this helps.

Troy Bilt made that for Sears. Murray owns the vac line now---MTD bought the rest of Troy Bilt from them.

A Murray dealer should be able to provide that stuff at a savings over buying from Sears if you find the right dealer.

I am also in need of one. Turns out that no one has this item, especially the deflector body. When Troy Bilt went bankrupt MTD decided not to carry parts for the older units.

I have had to build my own deflector unit but find that believe it or not the new Toro Ultra hand held blower works better and faster than the Troy Bilt. So even after all the trouble of designing and making the unit, it really is not all that effective.

Well, MURRAY got this product line, and MTD got the rest when Troy Bilt went out of business.

At least that's what MTD told me when I asked. I have one of these being restored by a friend of mine who has a small engine shop. He got it as a trade in and it will eventually makes its way from MS to NYC :).
