Rob Old Craftsman Vise thinking of selling
July 10th, 2005 01:20 AM
I'm thinking of selling a vise I bought a while back, but I'm not sure. It's an older Craftsman, I'd say 50 years or so. It has the riveted metal Craftsman oval logo with ribbons on the ends. 3-1/2" jaws, everything is there, a real nice vice, I just haven't figured out what to do with it yet. I have several vises Wilton's, Parker's etc. Maybe too many, if you can have too many, lol. I don't know a price yet, but if the price was right you never know. Any thoughts?

Weigh it and check the shipping charges before offering a price.

When I look at an awesome $9.99 little vise on eBay, I now look at the $35 in shipping charges.

Joe Mini size :)

Actually 3 1/2 is a small vise for even a home shop. Most are 4" and better. It's a nice little piece though.

Most Ebayers start those at $10 no reserve and they bring about $25 to $30 (sometimes more) depending on the unit.

I have a brand new 6 1/2" Wilton that's USA made I got from Sears (story is posted here), 3 Wilton 400S machinist vises, and my dad's 4" bench vise, which I believe is a Newborn (some sort of import). I also have a little Mini Wilton which is a baby brother to the 400S (s) I have.

I don't know I'll probably keep it. Like the rest of you I hate getting rid of any of my tools. I have a Wilton 450N and an old Charles Parker vise as well. The Wilton is built like a tank and made in the USA, as is the Charles Parker.

Joe Good unit

Yea, those are good units. I would have liked to have added a Craftsman USA job (even a new one) to my workshop but Sears wouldn't have it that way. It has to be a Wilton.

I would have liked to see a Craftsman "MADE IN USA" Industrial vise on my workbench. I like my workshop as Craftsman over other brands. It just seems to fit me as a person and what I like (value, strength, a good deal, in it for the long haul).

Many of the mechanics at the FDNY where I work seem to agree---Craftsman stuff is very prevelant there.
