| Paul | August 10th, 2008 08:51 PM Well, I still can't get into www.sears.com... And since it seems my last thread about this was accidentally deleted, I guess I'll throw this one out there again. Anyone else getting shut down while trying to use the Sears site? I remember Joe said it worked for him a few days ago. Maybe if part of it worked I could send an email or make a phone call, but alas... I'm pretty sure everything's OK on my end, since all the other sites I try to visit work just fine. Kind of aggravating... |
| Adam | August 10th, 2008 10:54 PM It's working at the store. Slow...ly... You.. have to... be... pat..ient to useee it. But, I did learn how to do STORE TO WEB orders. That's right. One of the store metrics is how much Internet business we drum up. :) But, I've got a great angle for both organizations. Stores are setup for approximately 75 percent of an "average" Customer's needs, with the Catalog pumping that up in to the 90's. The Internet offering is even more, what with the non-Craftsman 3rd Party (i.e. Armstrong and SK) vendors merchandise being offered. If the store doesn't have the tool, but the catalog does, order it here and NOW. It can be either mailed to the Customer or a lot of it can be delivered to the store, for Customer pickup. Ya know them RHFT Craftsman ratchets? You don't! Well, lookie here... That there is a sweet ratchet. Oh, sure. I rebuild them. Would you like to hold one? I'm sorry. We don't sell them in the store any more. But, I can order them for you. You got a few minutes and a credit card? There's also that nice set of drag-link sockets. Do you own a Craftsman 4-foot flourescent light? Look here in the catalog. They come in different colors. A bit pricey - I know. But, the perfect item to compliment your collection of Craftsman tools in your shop. :) Customer gets stuff NOT AVAILABLE in the store. Store gets credit for generating some more commerce. The catalog/internet gets orders for specific items that are NOT COMPETING with store business. Tools get a real nice home. Everyone wins. |
| Paul | August 11th, 2008 12:47 AM Well, just for kicks, I checked out the Canadian Sears web site. (www.sears.ca) Well, it still works, and I had to take a look around. Man, they got some funny stuff on the Canadian side. They have a 3/4" drive set. In a metal box. That includes the breaker bar. AND the ratchet is a round head 3/4". Weird... |
| Adam | August 11th, 2008 04:55 AM On a ratchet evolutionary scale, Sears CA is selling Tri-Wing ratchet era tools, possibly from Tri-Wing era vendors. The frustrating thing is... Apparently, they are not selling out of their region - even on the INTERNET. But, all you need to do is, "Pop, over" to any one of their Canadian stores to pickup some tools. :~ |
| Joe | August 11th, 2008 09:09 AM Paul: Yes, they have some unique stuff. I have a Canada version of my 919-167460 compressor also and it's virtually identical to the US version, except for .10 CFM less on the 90 PSI scale. I believe their hand tools are made in China or Taiwan though, and not from the same US vendors as we have here :(. |
| Paul | August 11th, 2008 10:08 AM Yeah, I believe that's possible, Joe. Most of the pictures I looked at didn't have "made in USA" where you could read it. Except a set of impact sockets I looked at briefly, they had it printed quite clearly. :) |
| Joe | August 11th, 2008 12:30 PM Some of the instruction sheets differ. I have the book for my Canada version of the 919-176460 and it says "Sold by Sears Canada" but makes many references to Sears in the US. Also, I think "Craftsman Professional" is called something else in the Great North, but the compressor I have clearly says "Craftsman Professional" like its US counterpart. |
| Paul | August 13th, 2008 12:58 PM Well, I still can't access the web site, but Sears is still sending me emails for web specials/sales. Decided to try one of the links in the email, and, of course, that doesn't work either. :( |
| Joe | August 14th, 2008 09:18 AM If the rest of us can get to it, it may be your connection to the web, Paul...? |
| Paul | August 14th, 2008 10:01 AM Nah, I don't think it's that, Joe. *ALL* of the other web sites I've tried work just fine. Even the other Sears sites, it's just the main retail site that's not working for me. Just in case I checked the other things on my end that might affect sites from my end, cookies, security settings, etc... Last night (I think) I checked it again, and it had the full-on blank looking screen that said the site was down for updates. I looked at it again a few minutes ago, and it was back to the "Sorry, we cannot process your request" page. |
