| Adam | August 4th, 2008 03:42 PM Customer wants to return a, mmm... around 27 inch, LCD because he, "doesn't like it". Nothing wrong with it. Well, that would be a 15 percent restocking fee. He went NUTS. He refused to let the Warehouse people help him load it back into his car. Thing is... he didn't go through the steps of returning it. No refund was given to his charge account, minus the fifteen percent handling fee. So... he drove away, leaving HIS LCD on the ground. We can't sell it as Store Stock. He's got all the paperwork on him. The LCD is HIS. He fixed SEARS! A gift? That is so thoughtful. When's the next Employee/VIP night? I'm a show'n up for that night's raffle! Normally, they got those little cocktail weiners, that are grilled on one of them George Foreman grills. Ya know, the grease really DOES drain right off of the grill. |
| Paul | August 5th, 2008 12:13 AM I can't stand "restocking" fees either. I understand it in the case of *most* of the selection of electronics, because *most* of them are on display, where you can "try them out" to see if you'll like 'em or not. The tools dept. isn't always that way. The dept manager ain't gonna be happy is you go knifing through those blister packs to "try out" a tool. :( |
| Adam | August 5th, 2008 01:51 AM One reason there's a restocking-fee is that some of the returns are so ridiculous it is almost comical. Too big - tape measure. Too small - what? Too light - see; too heavy Too heavy - see; too light Wrong color - how? Someone else bought it for you - never having seen where it was goin? Not powerful enough - What part of 10 by 10 room was too hard to understand? Too powerful - see; too noisy. Too noisy - that's what nearly ALL air compressors are! Picture doesn't look good - You don't have a high definition setup do you? Doesn't work - Have you tried; fresh gas, oil in the engine, a new air filter, a new spark plug, holding the kill lever down - while pulling the cord (no joke)? I'm DONE with it - Ah... a Renter. The instigator of the origninal Restocking Fee. Attention Folks. Renter in Merchandise Pickup. Get him! |
| Joe | August 5th, 2008 09:20 AM Well, many have that fee because: 1) Technology is sensitive to the market. No one is going to buy a $2000 TV set that's from an open box. 2) It takes a fair amount of labor to rebox that thing again to make it saleable. 3) It prevents "renting" of the unit, as many of you noted here. I agree, the customer should be able to "test drive" what they buy first so they can be sure it's right for them. |
| Paul | August 5th, 2008 10:31 AM Yeah, I do understand stemming the flow of "the renter". That's what rent-to-own places are for. However, I don't rent. I just want the proper tool from the tool dept. without having to cough up 15% just to find out it won't do what the label claims it will. :/ Can you tell I've been burned by the restocking (renter) fee before? lol Even if I don't use it every day, I don't mind paying for something that works. I DO mind paying (even 15%) for something that I can't use. :| |
| Adam | August 5th, 2008 02:34 PM Sears does have display floors, filled with items for people to view, touch and play with. We should all "thank" the hardcore RENTERS who buy air conditioners during a heat-wave, lawn mowers after the grass has grown too high, digital cameras for special events, only to return them when "they're done" with the units (or the 30 day return period is upon them). The sad thing is: 15 percent of an air conditioner is A LOT less than actually renting said unit. So, the Renters continue to rent and the rest of us bear their burden at the retail stores. Oh! Got an excercise machine return the other day. Customer was moving to another state. Wow! That is so NICE of the store, to take it back. I have to finish assembling it? Well isn't that just precious... Whose paying for this labor? Why all the restocking fees are. |
| Joe | August 5th, 2008 05:25 PM Sometimes you can get a nice deal on a display. I have in the past. |
